Alice R. Nelson

Alice R. Nelson, age 86, of Dodgeville, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab. following a long illness. The former Alice Born was born on October 26, 1926 in Gorham, IL to Peter and Della (Dixon) Born. Following graduation she worked at the St. Louis Ordinance Plant during WWII. Alice married Norman Nelson on January 16, 1946. The couple farmed in the Castle Rock area until retiring to Dodgeville in 1985. Alice worked at Ben Franklin and World of Variety in Fennimore and for the Dodgeville S.U.N. Program for many years. She enjoyed many hobbies and crafts including, fishing, crocheting, sewing, rosemaling, quilting, flower gardening and creating items from the driftwood she collected. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman on December 24, 1997; a son, Peter on February 7, 1996; four brothers, Ralph, Henry, Edward and Paul Born and two sisters, Mary Jones and Irene Eastman.
Alice is survived by seven children, Geraldine (Brian) Cheney of Ottawa, Ontario; Susan (David) Niehaus of Platteville; Nancy Nelson of Fennimore; Wayne (Mary) Nelson of Dodgeville; Barbara (Jerry) Stankus of Janesville; Mark (Joyce) Nelson of New Lennox, IL and Steven (Heidi) Nelson of Mineral Point; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn (Bill) Schimpf of Jerseyville, IL; a sister-in-law, Faye Born of Edwardsville, IL; two brothers-in-law, Bob Fett of Platteville and Clyde Wagner of Livingston as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Castle Rock Lutheran Church. Pastor Kathy Jacobson will officiate with burial in church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville and at the church on Tuesday after 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Upland Hills Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
