Alder proposing Visions nightclub liquor license revocation

MADISON, Wis. — Following the shooting at Visions nightclub Sunday, the alder for that district is calling for the club’s liquor license to be revoked.

David Ahrens said he has seen too much violence in that area over the years that he believes stems from the crowd the nightclub attracts.

“I think there is enough evidence from the police district about the level of crime activity, such as disturbances, battery cases, autos stolen, drug dealing and prostitution. It’s really a blight on the neighborhood,” Ahrens said.

Ahrens said he plans to propose the liquor revocation at a Madison City Council meeting mid-January. He also said there is a citizens’ petition circulating in support of revoking the license.

“This particular incident last weekend is the icing on the cake,” Ahrens said. “Licenses are called if there are two or three police incidents where police are called in on disturbances, fights, etc. This has more than a dozen in less than a year.”

Ahrens said he believes if the liquor license is revoked, it could lead to the club shutting down, which is something Ahrens said he is also in favor of.
