Albert ‘Bert’ E Kienitz Jr, age 82, of Avoca, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at home.

He was born December 10, 1938, at Dodgeville Hospital, Dodgeville, WI. He is the son of Albert and Clara (Rakow) Kienitz. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1956. He married Doris Riddiough on September 30, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church, Boscobel. He and Doris, farmed on the family farm the first four years of their marriage. In 1965, they moved to the Village of Avoca. He then went to work for Hooper Construction until 1967 when he went to work as a custodial employee at the UW. He then worked at the power plant at Badger Ordnance. He finished his career working for the UW where he worked until he retired in 2000. He was a lifelong member of St John Lutheran, Avoca, and served on the Property Management Committee for many years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his three sons and many friends. For 26 years he enjoyed raising pheasants for the Avoca Rod and Gun Club until, for health reasons, he had to retire in 2018. The club members had a retirement party for him and presented him with a lifetime achievement award for his many years as a member. He was a member of the Avoca Fire Department and received a plaque of appreciation for his 33 years of service. He also enjoyed snowmobiling. He was a member of the Avoca Development Corp and received a plaque in appreciation in 1988 for his many years of outstanding service to the community.

Bert is survived by his wife Doris of Avoca, three sons: Bruce (Mary Jo) of Avoca, Kirk (Tina) of Nekoosa, Steven (Kimberly) of Avoca; sister, Marie (Ronald) Miller of Dodgeville, and brother-in-law Donald Franklin of Stoughton. He has 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, and a new one due in June. Special friends Hugh McWane, Joan Adams and Sharlele Ramsden and many more.

Bert will be united in heaven with many loved ones. His parents, sister Ardith, brother Eugene, his mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Beulah Riddiough, daughter-in-law Margie Jones Kienitz and great grandson Gage Kienitz.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Avoca on Saturday, May 8, 2021 with burial to follow in the Avoca Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Avoca on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM. Masks are required during all services at the church.
