Adella T.M. Hogan

MADISON – Adella T.M. Hogan, age 94 years, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Karmenta Center in Madison. She was born on March 19, 1918 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Alfred and Helvin (Bjoraas) Brickson. The family later moved to Deerfield and settled in Madison where she attended East High School.
On Oct. 30, 1939, Adella married Joseph Hogan in Dubuque, Iowa. Her married life included many moves to various cities, as her husband was a movie theatre manager in Madison, Lancaster, Oconomowoc, Middleton and also Muncie, Indiana.
While at their residence in Oconomowoc, Adella was employed at the exclusive Andrea’s Apparel Shop. She was instrumental in many sales areas and also planned and implemented various style shows Andrea’s featured in the White Fish Bay area of Milwaukee and other surrounding cities.
Their last location was in Muncie, Indiana. She again worked in dress sales there. Upon her husband’s death in Muncie, Adella returned to Madison and was employed at Borman’s Apparel for 23 years. She provided a personal touch of salesmanship for each of her customers, serving many in Maple Bluff, Cherokee, Waunakee and other surrounding areas.
Adella is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Jim) Gyles of Sarasota, Florida; three grandsons, Dr. Gregg Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona, Steven and Bryan Lewis of Waukesha; and great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Buelah “Penny” (Donald) Tjugum; nephews, Tom(Kathy), Jim (Kim), Jerry (Becky) Tjugum; niece, Diane Tjugum (Charles) Meyer; great nieces, Michelle Tjugum and daughter, Teri (Travis) Romens and sons, Shelby Tjugum and Jenna and Katie Meyer; and also her nieces and their children, Karen (Norm) Nelson, Nancy (Mike) Kurowski, Joanne Schmidt and Debbie Peterson. Her surviving extended family, who were also a very special part of her life, includes, Ryan and Jenny Fitzsimmons and family, Tina and Matt Braddy and son, and Mike Fitsgerald and his daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; and brothers, Harold, Francis and Arthur Brickson.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, with Pastor Gil Splett presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
