Aaron Rodgers: No grace period for Packers

Green Bay — Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers appears to have moved on from the recent controversy surrounding a recent online article that questioned his leadership qualities. He did not formally address the team about the story when players reported for offseason workouts this week.

Rodgers spoke with the media on Wednesday. He said the addition of first-year head coach Matt LaFleur and a new-look coaching staff doesn’t mean there’s a grace period for the organization.

“This isn’t like other transitions where you maybe give a pass for the first year or two as you get acclimated to the system,” Rodgers said Wednesday. “We have veteran quarterback, veteran offensive linemen. We signed some big free agents us, especially three on defense.”

The Packers signed linebackers Preston and Za’Darius Smith (no relation) and safety Adrian Amos this offseason. Green Bay gave up 25 points per game last season (22nd in the NFL), and they gave up 354 yards per game (18th).

Rodgers says the expectations are still high despite the fact that they’ve missed the playoffs two years in a row.

“There’s an expectation living and playing here that you’re going to compete for championships, and I think we all expect to do that.”
