Madison police believe someone trying to avoid the city’s television recycling fee is responsible for dumping 73 sets at two locations within hours.

A resident in the 1800 block of Roth Street told police she heard something in the middle of the night Wednesday night and found 40 General Electric 27-inch TV sets in her side yard, all missing electrical cords.

Hours earlier an employee at Pet World Warehouse, 2148 W. Beltline Highway, found 33 GE 32-inch sets.

The city of Madison charges a $10 recycling fee for televisions.
