Police: Man creates makeshift living room in garage despite no-trespassing signs

MADISON, Wis. — A man who created a makeshift living room in the garage of an east side residence faces trespassing charges, according to a release from the Madison Police Department.

On June 14 officers responded to a residence in the 10 block of North Street to look into issues with people entering homes and taking up residence, officials said. An officer found Oscar Williams, 64, a few days after being notified of the problem.

Williams was trying to get into the property from the back of the building, and the officer said he could not be on the property without consent, according to the release.

After the officer found Williams, no-trespassing signs were posted on the property and any general security concerns were fixed to make the property less prone to trespassing activity, officials said.

On Sunday, the officer went back to check on the property and found that Williams had constructed a makeshift living room in the garage of the residence, according to the release.

Williams was arrested on tentative charges of unlawful trespassing after notification and possession of drug paraphernalia.
