$60K cash bond set for driver accused in deadly hit-and-run near Oregon

OREGON, Wis. — A Dane County judge set a $60,000 cash bond Tuesday afternoon for a Brooklyn man accused of hitting and killing a runner south of Oregon last month.

Timothy Pritchett, 38, faces charges of hit-and-run involving death and homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle stemming from the crash, which left 30-year-old Logan Gueths of Oregon dead.

Officials said the crash happened on June 7; a truck driver found Gueths’ body near the intersection of County Highways MM and A the following day. Gueths died from blunt force trauma.

According to a criminal complaint, Gueths’ roommate told police he had gone for a run around 9 p.m. on June 7 but never returned.

While investigating the crash, a detective found a vehicle part at the scene belonging to a 1996 to 2002 Chevrolet Express van.

The complaint said another detective responded to Pritchett’s home in Brooklyn two days after Gueths’ body was found after someone submitted a tip that a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the crash was parked out front. That vehicle belonged to Pritchett.

According to the complaint, Pritchett told police he thought he had hit a deer on Highway MM between 9:40 p.m. and 10 p.m. the day of the crash. Pritchett reportedly said he got out and looked for the deer but did not see it or Gueths.

After detectives reviewed his cell phone data, Pritchett said he may have been on a FaceTime call at the time of the crash.

Pritchett was arrested last week; a preliminary hearing is set for July 14.
