We’re discovering new local artists every day through Instagram, and our latest obsession is the beautiful craftsmanship of Madison artist Aaron Laux. This painted piece made of weathered wood was a commission for a client. “My work is about connecting to nature and also our own inner selves,” says Laux. Find more of Laux’s work on his website, aaronlauxdesign.com, or on Instagram at @aaronlauxdesign.Courtesy of Aaron LauxWe’re discovering new local artists every day through Instagram, and our latest obsession is the beautiful craftsmanship of Madison artist Aaron Laux. We love a good charcuterie board, but the cross-contamination potential of sharing a big board of food is an unacceptable risk during a pandemic. Introducing the charcuterie cone. Tricky Foods, founded by Therese Merkel, can whip up a custom batch of cones that are just as tasty (and Instagrammable) as a board. She does boards, boxes and snack catering, too. notsotrickyfoods.comCourtesy of Trick FoodsWe love a good charcuterie board, but the cross-contamination potential of sharing a big board of food is an unacceptable risk during a pandemic. Madison author Dineo Dowd’s self-published children’s books are meant to encourage young children, especially children of color, to trade “screen time” for “green time.” Dowd says she saw a gap in children’s books depicting diverse subjects. “There are few books that are written about the outdoors for children, [and] they don’t have diverse characters.” Her recently published Christmas book, “Christmas From Both Worlds,” is her fifth book.
