3-4 inches of rain slows morning commute

Early morning storms drop more than 3 inches of rain west of Madison

MADISON, Wis. — The western part of Dane County was under a Flash Flood Warning Thursday morning following overnight storms that have dropped as much as 3-4 inches of rain in a couple of hours.

Rainfall totaled 3-4 inches over many areas of Madison, according to the News 3 Weather Center. Other areas received 1-2 inches of rain and totals diminished to the north and west of Dane County.

Both Alliant Energy and MG&E reported power outages following the storm. Most power was restored by 9 a.m.

The weather is expected to become partly sunny, very warm and humid later on Thursday. Southern Wisconsin could see highs close to 90 on Thursday, with the heat index approaching 100.

However, a cold front from the west will cool things off later on Thursday. There is a slight risk for severe weather when that happens, but the Storm Prediction Center said the severe threat is only expected north of Madison Thursday night.
