2nd man enters plea in fatal baseball bat beating

Prosecutor recommends 25 years in prison

WAUSAU, Wis. — A prosecutor in Marathon County has agreed to recommend a maximum of 25 years in prison for the second of two men accused in a fatal baseball bat beating.

Twenty-three-year-old Warren Krohn pleaded guilty to party to felony murder and party to burglary in a deal with the prosecution Wednesday. Original charges against Krohn carried a maximum 65 years in prison.

Court documents say Krohn and Zachary Froehlich went to the furnished garage where Kerby Kniess was living in Wausau in 2012 with the intention of robbing him, which they had done in the past without waking him. Daily Herald Media says this time the two brought a baseball bat, which Froehlich used to beat Kniess in the head.

Froehlich was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Krohn will be sentenced Feb. 27.
