28 years in prison for man who assaulted boy in garage

A Janesville man was sentenced Tuesday to nearly 40 years, including extended supervision, for repeated sexual assault of a child.
Judge Richard Werner sentenced Kenneth K. Kimpel, 49, to 28 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision for assaulting a boy beginning in 2013. He sexually assaulted the child in his garage.
A jury found Kimpel guilty of repeated sexual assault of the same child, which includes a modifier of at least three violations of first- or second-degree sexual assault, and child enticement/sexual contact. When Kimpel was found guilty in March, he tried to swallow a bottle of pills in court.
Prosecutors had asked for an additional three years on Kimpel’s sentence, which were not granted.
Police said Kimpel knew the juvenile victim for several months before the assault.
