2 injured after Ford Explorer strikes semi, rolls in median

Authorities said two people were flown by helicopter to the hospital after a rollover crash.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said a 2000 Ford Explorer was passing a semi-truck on Interstate 39 near Stoughton at about 11:31 a.m. Tuesday when the accident happened.

According to the report, the 72-year-old woman driving the Explorer was in the left lane and the semi in the right. The state patrol said the woman in the Explorer saw the semi turn on its left blinker and she swerved, lost control and struck the left side of the semi. The Explorer then rotated counter-clockwise into the grass median and rolled over once, landing on its wheels, the state patrol said.

The Ford Explorer driver, Carol McKinnan, from Missouri, and her passenger, 52-year-old Marilyn Spletter, from Round Lake, Ill., were taken by MedFlight to UW Hospital, according to the report.

Trooper Tim Redman said both women’s injuries were non-life-threatening.
Semi driver Chad Hufstedler, 40, from New Richmond, Wis., was not injured, Redman said in the release.

All three involved were wearing seat belts, state patrol said.
