2 events expected to delay traffic in Janesville over holiday weekend

City of Janesville officials said there are two major events that will affect traffic flow over the Fourth of July weekend.

On Friday, Independence Day on the Rock will be held at Traxler Park starting at 8 p.m., according to a release. The event, hosted by the Rock Aqua Jays, will close the Memorial Avenue bridge and all ramps to the bridge.

North Franklin Street between Mineral Point Road and Highland Avenue will also be closed at 8 p.m. for the fireworks show, officials said. Bike trails will be closed from Mineral Point Road and Franklin Street to the area just north of the Memorial Avenue bridge.

The fireworks show is expected to start around 9:30 p.m. Officials said drivers should expect delays when trying to leave Traxler Park after the fireworks show.

Drivers heading south on North Main Street will not be able to turn east or left onto East Centerway, according to the release. Drivers heading south on North Parker Drive will not be able to turn west or right onto East Centerway.

The second event that will affect traffic starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Traxler Park will be the site of the annual Rock, Roll and Run Triathlon, according to the release. All roads will stay open to traffic during the event, but traffic will be stopped at certain times to protect participants.

The event will end around 11 a.m.

The bicycle part of the event will go from Traxler Park and will follow Main Street, Centerway, North Franklin Street, and Mineral Point Road, and then will go out into the county, officials said. The bikers will return on the same route.

The run portion of the event will leave Traxler Park, and will follow Main Street, East Holmes, Sinclair Street, East Van Buren Street, Wisconsin Street, Prospect Avenue, Cornelia Street, Pease Court and then Main Street to get back into the park.
