2 beat out Sun Prairie’s incumbent mayor in primary

The great groundhog lawsuit

Paul Esser and Bill Clausius beat out current Sun Prairie Mayor Jonathan Freund to be on the the ballot for mayor in April.

While much more of the world now knows about Freund, thanks to groundhog Jimmy taking a bite out of his ear, Freund got 26 percent of the votes compared to Esser’s 46 percent and Clausius’ 28 percent.

Clausius is a Dane County board member and former Sun Prairie City Council president.

Esser was previously Sun Prairie’s mayor, but said he wants the job again because no one is talking about the city’s long-term economy, diversity and transportation.

Esser and Clausius will face each other in the April 7 general election.

FITCHBURG

Current Fitchburg Mayor Shawn Pfaff will take on Steve Arnold in April’s general election.

Arnold got 46 percent of the vote and Pfaff got 35 percent of the vote to beat Janel Rice and Jay Allen.
