A 17-year-old girl suffered an arm injury Wednesday night after several south side residents reported hearing gunfire, police said.

Madison police responded around 7:20 p.m. to the 2000 block of Fisher Street for multiple reports of gunshots, according to a release.

At about the same time as the calls, a 17-year-old girl arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital with an injury to her arm, officials said.

Police said the 17-year-old does not appear to be the intended target of the gunfire, but her car was struck by several bullets.

An SUV, which was also struck by bullets, was found near the scene, officials said.

Detectives are trying to determine who was the intended target, but they do not believe the shooting was random. A suspect has not yet been identified.
