14-year-old thrown from vehicle in crash dies at hospital, officials say
TOWN OF RUBICON, Wis. — A 14-year-old boy was killed and a 16-year-old boy was injured Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash in the town of Rubicon, according to a release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called at 7:05 a.m. to Pond Road, east of County Road P, on a report of the crash.
Investigators said a 16-year-old boy was driving east on Pond Road when his car drifted onto the right shoulder. The car started to spin counter-clockwise and then vaulted. The passenger, 14-year-old Cade P. Werner, of Rubicon, was ejected as the car overturned.
The driver was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Werner was flown by Flight for Life to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee with life-threatening injuries. Werner died Tuesday from injuries sustained in the crash.
The Neosho Fire Department, Hartford EMS, Flight for Life and the Dodge County Emergency Response Team assisted at the scene.
