14-year-old boy drowns at pond in rural Jefferson County
OAK HILL, Wis. — A 14-year-old boy was found dead Sunday after going underwater at a pond in rural Jefferson County on Saturday.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s officials said the boy was swimming in a pond at Nature’s Villa, a campground located south of Sullivan. The boy had gone underwater and could not be found.
Crews from 12 different agencies were sent to the scene to search for the teen. Rescue divers searched the pond until 9:35 p.m. Saturday when the search was suspended due to darkness.
Divers resumed the search at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was called in to use an underwater submersible drone to help. At 8:33 a.m., the boy’s body was recovered.
“The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office along with all Fire and EMS responding to this tragedy extend our deepest heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the family involved,” officials said in a statement.
The boy’s name was not released.
