12 Days of Giving – The Burnett Family
FITCHBURG, Wis. — This holiday season, News 3 Now is making 12 area families’ miracles come true.
Our 12 Days of Giving continue, this time surprising a single mother with presents for her one, three, and five-year-old kids.
Flodejhia Burnett beat the odds, but she isn’t stopping there. She is working to provide for her kids and to fulfill her dreams of going to college for nursing.
In middle school, Burnett received a scholarship offer for her dream college. But sometimes, life happens.
“When I was in high school, I did have my five-year-old,” Burnett said.
That put her college dreams on hold. Now, the 23-year-old mother of three is trying to forge her path to college, but more than anything, she wanted to give her kids a special Christmas. That’s tough to do when you’re just trying to make ends meet.
“(My kids) are literally the light of my life,” she said.
That’s where News 3 Now’s 12 Days of Giving comes in. In partnership with SSM Health, the station brought the Burnetts a Christmas miracle.
Crying tears of joy, Burnett said, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it just means a lot to me.”
Feeding four mouths and putting presents under the tree isn’t an easy task.
“My five-year-old he knows about Christmas, they teach him that in 4K, so he’s been singing about it and thinking about it so once he sees this, he’s gonna be like, ‘Wow Mommy, this is amazing,’” Burnett said. “Thank you, it means a lot to me, you blessed me today and this will go far, and my kids will be very happy.”
And while we were at her house, we realized she didn’t have a tree to put her presents under. We’re coming back to take care of that, too.
