The driver of a semitrailer that jack-knifed and crashed near Mount Horeb Saturday afternoon has died, officials said.

Dane County dispatch said it received a report of a semi crash on Highway 151 north at Sand Rock Road at 1:32 p.m.

Investigators said the semi was going west on Highway 18/151 when it left the roadway, crossed through the median and jack-knifed.

The semi continued through the east/south lanes, went into the opposite ditch and rolled onto its side, according to a release.

The driver was taken out of the semi and CPR was started, officials said. Med Flight responded to the scene and took the driver, a 52-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man, to UW Hospital where he later died.

Highway 18/151 was closed near the crash for several hours. Traffic was rerouted through Mount Horeb during the closure.

The driver was wearing a seat belt, and investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
